Donations and memorial gifts are accepted to help sustain the operations of the Westport Maritime Museum and Grays Harbor Lighthouse. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Donations may be made for the Grays Harbor Lighthouse Restoration Fund, or to support the Westport Maritime Museum. We will acknowledge your gift to friends or family members if names and addresses are provided.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Watchstanders
Watchstanders are docents that help at the Grays Harbor Lighthouse, the Westport Maritime Museum, or Destruction Island Lens Building.

Special Events
Volunteers are needed to help with our annual events such as: Whale of a Sale, 4th of July, Run 4 the Light, and Santa by the Sea.
Special Projects
Throughout the year we have short term opportunities to join our team. For example, carpentry, gardening, baking for special events, sewing, computer skills, and historical research. If you have a special skill you think might be helpful PLEASE don’t hesitate to call.
Tour Guide
Help give tours that have been booked in advance so you have plenty of lead time. Tours are typically schools, group tours, or larger family groups.
Archive Staff
For volunteers with more time, we will be writing Finding Aids for the Museum Archives. This requires reading archival material such as newspaper clippings, letters, and other published and non-published material. The material is described in a few sentences and compiled into an index we can post online making the collection more accessible for researchers and the general public. Computer skills are not needed, but must have good spelling and legible handwriting. Training is available and you will be working with the executive director. Archive staff needs to commit to at least one day per week, shift length can vary.
Tag Team
As we continue to develop and expand our online photo archives, we'll need volunteers to help us scan, sort, and tag photos to improve searchability. Join us for Tag Team events at McCausland Hall. You bring a laptop. We'll bring the coffee and donuts.
