Quilters in McCausland Hall

GRAYS HARBOR LIGHTHOUSE

When the ground of the former US Coast Guard station were vacated and turned ver to the Westport South Beach Historical Society by the City of Westport in 1985, the four-bay single story garage on the northwest corner of the grounds was not included. At the time, the grand old structure was being used to house fire department equipment. In June, the Westport Fire Department cleared out the garage and turned it over to the Westport South Beach Historical Society.

The building was remodeled to include a meeting space, kitchen, and storage, and dedicated in 1989 as the Maritime Museum Lecture Hall. Since that time, it's been a gathering place for a variety of support groups, quilters and crafters, whale watching and beachcombing seminars, wedding receptions and other celebrations, memorial observances, our annual Whale of a Sale fundraiser, and of course, the WSBHS quarterly potluck.

At our Spring 2006 quarterly meeting, a proclamation was presented to WSBHS charter members Bob and Ruth McCausland, officially renaming the facility McCausland Hall in honor of their many contributions to the Historical Society and to the community.
